Jimmy V Speech
The things that I take away from Mr. Shoemaker's course is that knowledge is applied. Memorizing and testing will only take you so far, and in the real world, that is not how we succeed. The things that I took away from the speech was Jimmy's three things to do every day: laugh, think, and cry. I do do those everyday! It makes me happy! Also, both Jimmy and Mr. Shoemaker preach that we need to do whatever we do with enthusiasm, and I believe in that as well. I appreciate how sincere Shoe was in his soapbox about using the opportunities given to us every day. DON'T BE A COUCH PERSON! That was my biggest take away from today's class. I try to stay optimistic and most people that know me will agree with me =) Everything is so much easier if you just look at it with a light. You must believe in yourself. You will have NOTHING if you don't believe in yourself. Also, I like that Jimmy reminded me that EVERY SINGLE DAY is precious-- enjoy it!!!! You NEVER KNOW what could happen. Where are you, where you wanna be, and how you get there: that is what I am going to focus on from the speech & class.

Blog Post #5 Election Reflection
I think that depending on the candidate, the global perspective will change. If McCain was elected, the world would see the U.S. as not changing. They would probably fear us as a war state still. Since Obama was elected, I assume that the world would view us in a more friendly manner. This is logical because of the candidate's view on the war. McCain sides with Bush, which is obviously not a popular idea. Obama wanted to talk with the Middle East, which makes us look more approachable and reasonable. Technology will always have an impact on the election. It makes it so much easier for people to read up on their candidate of choice. If you are only interested in one topic, google it! You don't even have to watch the whole debate, which makes it more convenient and less time consuming, which is how America likes it! As for SNL, I think that had an impact too. It really made Palin look unintelligent. When I was done cramping from laughter, I felt kind of bad for her. Since the internet is always available, even if you didn't see the SNL skits, you could youtube it! They were so funny that everyone heard about them, and a lot of people went online to see it, I know I did! As for civil rights, I am not sure that they will change. I think that both candidates have very similar view points as far as civil rights. The only reason why I think that there will be more freedom and acceptance is because Obama is a democrat so people are expecting that and he might give the people what they want. He seems like the kind of guy who would do that sort of thing despite how he really feels about the topic. I feel bad for the republican party. They are catching a lot of mean words due to Bush's presidency which I do not think is entirely fair. I do not think people treat Bush entirely fair either, but I suppose that is a topic for another blog. Which ever party the president belongs to is going to get bashes a little bit. Also, I think that both candidates would have made mistakes, anyone would have, and that people are never satisfied therefor either way, I'm up for a change. As for the speeches the night of the election, I am really impressed with both McCain and Obama. They were both very respectful and honest. It was nice to see the non competitive side of their opinions on each other. I do not know how I feel about Obama winning. I am willing to give him a chance. I read that only a very small percentage of voters were black, so for those people who said he only won because he was black, you are incorrect. Most of Obama's voters were white. I was surprised at this at first. The blogger I was following is happy. He was in favor of Obama. He really disliked Palin, so I know that he never would have wanted McCain to be president incase he died and Sarah had to run the country. That frightens me as well! I really liked McCain, but I don't know that I could have taken that risk if I was voting this year.

Palin Sitting Pretty
http://www.philly.com/philly/blogs/americandebate/Sitting_pretty.html
This is not the most recent of Dick Polman's blogs, but I found this one more comprehensible. It basically talks about how whether McCain wins or looses, it does not matter for Palin. If McCain wins, she is VP of the U.S., and if he looses, she is "heroine of the conservative base". I was annoyed with this blog because the bias was getting ridiculous. At first he just talked about how she hasn't been out in public lately because of Saturday Night Live and what not, but then through out the blog he says things that scream I'm DEMOCRATIC. For example, "she gets to be vice president of the United States, thereby demonstrating that anything is possible in our dumbed-down culture". It is not necesary for him to make comments like that. To be quite honest, I do not really care about his opinion. I would like facts. Let me make my own opinion, but this is a blog so it is understandable. In the beginning of the article, Polman talks about the places that she chooses to speak to. It explains that they have to be McCain friendly and she keeps choosing, "red" states, but then he continues into saying, "leads me to wonder which areas she deems to be traitorous." Maybe I am looking at it with a bias perspective, so it seems bias. I am not even sure at this point.

October 2, 2008 Debate & Political Blog
On behalf of last night's debate, I would just like to say that I thought it was very amusing to watching each VP canidate's face as the other spoke; you could tell they each wanted to either one, laugh, or two, respond immediately to their oponent's statement. Also it was funny to hear their tones when they responded. You could hear the anger, or sarcasm, or deciet. I honestly found that Pelin was trying to say all of the right things, but was not saying much at all. Meaning she would say for example, we strongly believe in democracy and fighting terror, but not how they were going to do it. I can not say that I liked Biden (sp?), or that I believed everything that he was saying, but he did spit a lot of facts which I appreciated. I think that facts are easier to the public to chew and digest. The only issue with that is that at some points the canidates would disagree, and propose contradicting facts. For example, Pelin used that Obama said that he wanted to sit down with the leaders of these terrorist countries against him, but then Biden came in and said that Obama never said that. Unless I heard the words come straight out of Obama's mouth, how would I know which fact is true? I wouldn't, and that is why it is impossible to say who won the debate. If i absolutely had to pick, I would say Biden because his arguments were easier to "digest". I think one of his strongest points was when he said that he loved McCaine, but so far in this campaign he has NOT seen anything from McCaine's policies that differ from George Bush's. I really do not know if that is true, but I can say that the public probably really appreciate that comment, and perhaps it gave points to Obama. It is hard to judge either of these canidates if I myself do not know all of the background information and facts. I feel as though I do not have a place to comment on any of the other specific facts.
In my political blog, he adresses Dick Polman's analysis of the debate. Although he was bias, and clearly attacked Pelin, I agreed with some of his points. For example he put a quote from the debate that I don't particularly remember, but would believe, "...go to a kid's soccer game...I betcha....darn right it was the predatory lenders...Joe six pack...hockey moms across the nation...a heckuva lot...darn right we need tax relief...now doggone it...". I remember with in ten minutes of watching the debate, I asked myself why was she speaking like that? Also he brings up that Pelin avoids answering the question alot, and that the moderator, Gwen Ifill, did not make her answer it. At one point, Pelin said she just wasn't going to answer it, and i thought to myself.. can she do that? Polman brought up the sex issue. I refuse to adress this issue because it makes me angry. If you read the debate, and had no clue which was a man or which was a woman, many people would change their opinion on it, and i do not agree with that. it upsets me really to even adress this issue, we are in 2008, let's get over it, people. Polman does mention that Pelin had a perky delivery and I truly believe that that helped her because I for one can say that i did not like Biden's delivery and therefor didn't like him or want to hear anything he had to say. I know that is not the way that I should look at it, but its true. If you have no likability it is hard to want to hear what you have to say or to believe you even after we do hear it. Polman says that it is clear that Biden won, and after reading his blog, I can say that I might agree with that. I don't really like either of them very much, but I perfer Pelin. She is a stronger presenter and therefor easier to like, and she seems more like a mom than a politician which is a nice quality to have.

Coffee Coffee Coffee
This website explains how coffee is affecting our chemical imbalances. I don't believe that coffee is the problem. i think that the problem is that people associate Starbucks, WaWa, Dunkin Doughnuts with coffee. Those places do not serve coffee, they serve sugared beverages that act as the caffinated beverage that we all know and love. Coffee by itself is healthy when consumed in moderation. Many people drink it to minimize the pain of headaches, or to clear their chest. i think when consumed in the way teenagers consume it today, it is NOT healthy. We become addicted. Although many joke about this addiction, it is actually very serious. Try not drinking that starbucks lattee every week, i guarentee you find yourself thinking about it. that is because your body is craving all of the sugar put into that lattee. this could become a health hazard. too much coffee can cause teeth decoloration or desire pangs. We can enjoy a lattee every once in a while, but make sure you don't depend on it. Bottom line is that coffee on its own can be good for you, when sugared and processed, it can become dangerous. http://www.chemicallyimbalanced.org/

Eagles Defense Punish Roethlisberger, Steelers 15-6
http://www.nflgridirongab.com/
This is an entire site dedicated to NFL news and highlights. I like it because there are multiple blogs on one page with every game that happened yesterday in the NFL.
It is good because he says how all of the points that were made and by who. Also it gives a little insight on how the game was looked at from the public eye. i agreed with everything the author said about the steelers offense making it look easy for the eagles. i think Roethlisberger made his team look bad. not that is was his entire fault because the o line didn't help change that either. i always thought the eagles had a decent strong defense, this game was proof. it wasn't like a phenomenal game or anything huge for the eagles, but they were stable.
