Blog Post #5 Election Reflection

I think that depending on the candidate, the global perspective will change. If McCain was elected, the world would see the U.S. as not changing. They would probably fear us as a war state still. Since Obama was elected, I assume that the world would view us in a more friendly manner. This is logical because of the candidate's view on the war. McCain sides with Bush, which is obviously not a popular idea. Obama wanted to talk with the Middle East, which makes us look more approachable and reasonable. Technology will always have an impact on the election. It makes it so much easier for people to read up on their candidate of choice. If you are only interested in one topic, google it! You don't even have to watch the whole debate, which makes it more convenient and less time consuming, which is how America likes it! As for SNL, I think that had an impact too. It really made Palin look unintelligent. When I was done cramping from laughter, I felt kind of bad for her. Since the internet is always available, even if you didn't see the SNL skits, you could youtube it! They were so funny that everyone heard about them, and a lot of people went online to see it, I know I did! As for civil rights, I am not sure that they will change. I think that both candidates have very similar view points as far as civil rights. The only reason why I think that there will be more freedom and acceptance is because Obama is a democrat so people are expecting that and he might give the people what they want. He seems like the kind of guy who would do that sort of thing despite how he really feels about the topic. I feel bad for the republican party. They are catching a lot of mean words due to Bush's presidency which I do not think is entirely fair. I do not think people treat Bush entirely fair either, but I suppose that is a topic for another blog. Which ever party the president belongs to is going to get bashes a little bit. Also, I think that both candidates would have made mistakes, anyone would have, and that people are never satisfied therefor either way, I'm up for a change. As for the speeches the night of the election, I am really impressed with both McCain and Obama. They were both very respectful and honest. It was nice to see the non competitive side of their opinions on each other. I do not know how I feel about Obama winning. I am willing to give him a chance. I read that only a very small percentage of voters were black, so for those people who said he only won because he was black, you are incorrect. Most of Obama's voters were white. I was surprised at this at first. The blogger I was following is happy. He was in favor of Obama. He really disliked Palin, so I know that he never would have wanted McCain to be president incase he died and Sarah had to run the country. That frightens me as well! I really liked McCain, but I don't know that I could have taken that risk if I was voting this year.
